To the North of the Daytona Beach area you'll find the more quiet Ormond Beach. Driving on the beach is prohibited at the northern end of the beach. The Central part of Daytona Beach is the "World Center of Racing" and home of NASCAR, Daytona's claim to fame. Many great attractions in the area such as the Ocean Center, International Airport, the new Ladies Pro Golf Association (LPGA) golf course, and the Halifax Harbor Marina are what also makes Daytona Beach an appealing city. Activities like viewing the Main Street Pier, strolling on the Oceanfront Boardwalk, and checking the Clocktower in Oceanfront Park will keep you busy. South Daytona Beach is a peninsula with a visually interesting fishing village of Ponce Inlet. There you will find many great seafood restaurants or take the do-it-yourself approach by chartering a fishing boat.

Daytona Beach History
|
Daytona Beach has been attracting vacationers since the late 1800s. The land was first discovered by wealthy tycoons from the north looking to invest in good land. The first hotel, the Palmetto House, was added to the scene in 1874. It became a trend to help build up Daytona, with community centers and golf courses well along the way.
Vacationers have been flocking to the Daytona Beach area for more than a century. During the late 1800s, the area caught the attention and imagination of many wealthy northern tycoons who found the land favorable for investment. One such mogul, Mathias Day, founding father of what was then called Daytona, built the first hotel, the Palmetto House, in 1874.
At the turn of the century, automobile racing became a favorite pastime along the beaches of Ormond. Multiple land speed records were set here and it became known as the "birthplace of speed." Shortly after NASCAR was founded.
Daytona Beach attracts approximately 8 million visitors a year.
